These are the 10 fall wardrobe staples I’m wearing this season. I could make tons of outfits around these items. And these are the ones I am reaching for first when I get dressed every morning. Here is where to start if you need to go back to the basics this season.
I actually prefer to have a paired down wardrobe. And every season I store my off season items so I am only seeing what is weather appropriate. I find it so much easier to get dressed in the morning because I am not bogged down by too many options that I get overwhelmed. These are the items that are in constant rotation. The ones I am reaching for the second they are clean. And the items I can’t live without!
Fall Wardrobe Staples

1. Denim
I have been reaching for a classic straight leg jean most this season. This pair (more sizes here) has been my favorite. They are rigid and don’t stretch out and just always look good. Not to mention they are the perfect color. Not too light and not too dark. I have also been reaching for this pair almost equally as much. They are a little looser and so comfy. I wear these on days when I don’t want to be as serious. I only included one pair of pants in this list because I do truly wear denim 90% of the time. I love a good pair of jeans! But if I were to include a pair of pants, it would be this corduroy pair. They are super cute and match back to all the tops. Size down as they run really big.
2. Rollneck Sweater
The J.Crew rollneck sweater is easily one of my most favorite sweaters in my closet right now. It’s so good, I just bought it in a third color. Navy is my most worn. I just ordered the ivory and I bet I will wear that one just as much. And I also have a white and navy stripe from the spring that I wear a ton of. I also think the purple is a fun punch of color and this deep green is gorgeous!
3. Barn Jacket
A classic wardrobe calls for a barn jacket in the fall. They are quintessential fall to me and a staple in my wardrobe. Over the years, I have collected far too many. But my favorite one I’ve been wearing this season is this navy one by Marea. The navy is classic, but the unexpected details make it a little less traditional. I have this plaid one on my wish list to buy next. And I just added this warmer barn jacket with removable fur collar to my cart too. Love the classic color of it and how you can change it up as the season change. If you are looking for a pop of color- I love this light pink one. I love a good barn jacket and the market has so many good ones out right now!
4. Mary Jane Flats
My most worn and reached for pair of flats during the fall are these Mary Jane flats (more sizes here). They are a little dressier than a sneaker but just as comfortable. And the come in a wide range of colors. I wear the brown the most, but I bought burgundy this year and have been wearing them just as much. They are incredibly comfortable and make every outfit look so chic and put together. Runner up would be these suede flats that I want in every color they make. They are incredibly flattering on your foot and elevate any simple jeans and a sweater outfit. A great quality shoe for the price. I reach for these when I want to feel dressier.
5. Baseball Hat
A baseball hat is great accessory to have on rainy days or days you are going to spend outside and it is windy. Ralph Lauren makes the best hats that I have worn for years. I just got this new green one for fall that I have been wearing with all of my outfits.
6. Button Down
This is the absolute best button down you will ever own. Cry once, buy once! I’ve had mine for years and will never own another white button down besides this one. The white is the most worn in my closet. Wear it alone, under a sweater, front tucked, fully tucked, sleeves rolled up- the possibilities are endless! I even reach this on date night with a popped collar. A super sexy, yet classic look for date nights with your husband.
7. Crewneck Sweater
This sweater is the most beautiful sweater in my closet right now. The cream goes with everything. It goes great with a pair of jeans or tie it around your shoulders on warmer days for an extra layer. Add a classic white button down underneath or pair alone. You will feel so chic wearing this! It’s 100% cotton but on the thicker side so you can wear it year round. And it will keep you warm on those chilly fall days.
8. Long Sleeve Tee
I reach for a long sleeve tee a lot in the fall to either wear on it’s own on more mild days or to layer under a sweater when it’s chillier. This long sleeve tee is the best. It is so soft and the fit is so good. When you think of the perfect long sleeve tee- this one hits all bullets. Honorable mention- this short sleeve tee is my favorite to wear under sweaters in the fall. Size up because they do shrink a lot in the dryer.
9. Tote Bag
This woven tote bag is my most used this season. Madewell bags are very underrated because they are really great quality at such good prices. I hunted this bag down last season because I couldn’t find it anywhere! So I am happy to see it is back in stock. I’m able to carry all the mom things in it but still look chic doing it.
10. Elevated Sweatshirt
On the days you still want to look put together, but want to be more comfy, I reach for this sweatshirt. I wasn’t able to find the women’s in stock, but I did find it in the men’s department which, honestly would probably fit better. It does run a little small, even after I sized up one so I bet it has the perfect oversized fit coming from men’s! I love this sweatshirt because I feel more elevated and dressed up but still very cozy. The grey is my most worn in my wardrobe, but I also own it in white and wear that one a ton too. Pair this back to jeans or even a pair of leggings, a baseball hat and throw your barn jacket on for an easy outfit on the weekends.
