Review on the Society Social Peel and Stick Grasscloth Wallpaper

Wallpaper | Lamp | Lampshade | Knob (still have to add all the finishing touches to this space!)

…

If you follow me on Instagram you know that we have been working on updating our powder bath. I first shared the plans here back in May. We started to really work on it in September, but like most home projects it took way longer than we had anticipated. We started wallpapering in November and ran out of the wallpaper. I didn’t order enough at all! So I ordered more and then it was Christmas and things got busy around the house. Well, we finally finished it a couple of weekends ago and it looks amazing! Today I’m going to share my review on the Society Social peel and stick grasscloth wallpaper that we used.

I’ve seen this peel and stick wallpaper used in many different projects and it always looks amazing. I first ordered a sample in these colors- Mineral Blue, Hunter Green and Sage Green (what I ended up using). They were sold out of Whisper Blue or else I would have also purchased that because it looks gorgeous and right up my alley! I was a little undecided on what color direction I wanted to go in, but Sage Green was a clear winner when I received the samples. I was actually blown away by the wallpaper when I saw the samples. It feels like actual grasscloth wallpaper. I was only expecting it to look like it, not have the actual texture of it. It’s nice and thick like real grasscloth wallpaper, but at a much more affordable price point. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at how good the quality is.

I ended up measuring and ordering two rolls from Amazon just because it was cheaper and quicker to get. And then we started to wallpaper! I ordered this tool set and got out our level and we were ready to roll. The first piece was really difficult. We actually messed up and had to start completely over because we had made a tiny cut and we did it incorrectly. I should mention, my husband and I have never done this before. This was our first time wallpapering with peel and stick (or regular wallpaper). Looking back we probably could have salvaged that piece and ended up fixing the small spot we had cut later on. But at the time we didn’t know you could do this. More on that in a bit.

The first piece is also really difficult because it has to be level. We used our level to make sure it was even. Once you confirm it is level- use the smoothing tool in this kit to spread it over the wall. I would watch a video on this if you need more direction. It’s a rather simple concept, but it’s easier to see someone do it than read about it.

After the first piece we were on a roll! Things got a lot easier. We figured out how to make small cuts to go around the window. If you screw up at all, you can cut out a tiny bit of paper and add it to the wall. You don’t see it at all. I was really happy when I realized you could do that because it took a little pressure off and made things so much less stressful. If you screw up- you can fix it!

We did two walls and realized we didn’t have enough wallpaper, so I ordered three more rolls. That came a few days later but then it was Thanksgiving and then the Christmas season started. It was a really busy time of year! So we didn’t get back to wallpapering until January and by then we had forgotten everything we had learned. Once you get the first piece on and figure it out again- things go a lot faster.

I would say all in it took us about seven hours total to wallpaper our powder bath. There were a lot of things we had to work around in this tiny space- door frames, window, sconces, plug outlets etc. Plus this was our first time doing it so there was a small learning curve.

One of the main reasons I choose this particular peel and stick wallpaper was I liked that it didn’t have a pattern. I thought for our first time wallpapering, this would make things easier. But I’m not sure it really did. It was really hard to tell if things were level, so we made sure to use our level instead of eye balling it every piece we hung. This is not necessary, but I wanted it to be perfect. I knew I would fixate on the one crooked piece if it wasn’t perfect.

Review on the Society Social Peel and Stick Grasscloth Wallpaper

This was our first time using peel and stick wallpaper and while I would say it was easy to use, I thought initially sticking it on the wall and getting it straight was hard. This is best to do with two people because it gets kind of hard to hold it on your own. I think this is where I might like real wallpaper better, but it’s hard to say because I’ve never used traditional wallpaper. With traditional wallpaper, you can stick it to the wall and slide it around to line up the pattern, make it level, etc. Where as with peel and stick, once you stick it, its there. It is really easy to remove, but getting it straight can be a little difficult.

Like I mentioned earlier, I’m blown away by the quality. I would have never know it’s not real grasscloth if I didn’t read the description when I bought it. It looks and feels so nice. For our first time, I thought it was rather easy to work with. There is a bit of a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it goes a lot faster.

Overall, I’m really happy with how it turned out and it is exactly what I was hoping for. The Society Social peel and stick grasscloth wallpaper is beautiful, affordable and a great option even if this is your first time. I have a lot leftover and I’m actually thinking of wallpapering the inside of my pantry next!
