…

If you’ve been reading my blog, you have come to known that I have a casual, laid back preppy style.  I like to call it classic with a twist.  Overall, I like the simplicity of preppy outfits, but I might add a bold lip or some ruffles in there every once in awhile.  And I can appreciate all types of styles.  I love some boho looks, but I have come to learn that when I stray too far from my preppy looks, those items go unworn a lot.  And they aren’t staples I want to keep in my closet.

In 2017, I made it one of my goals to start buying more investment pieces.  I was getting sick of buying the same item every few years because I either bought something that was too trendy and now it looked dated.  Or what I really had my eye on was out of my budget.  So I was buying the next best thing that was close enough, but wasn’t what I actually wanted.  When I get something in my head that I like or want, I can’t stop thinking about it.  And I’m the type of person who nows good quality when I see it.  I appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into the expensive items.  Hey, you get what you pay for.

It all started with this jacket that I wore in this post.  The classic Burberry jacket that everyone seemed to have, except me.  I die for the classic Burberry check and have always lusted hard core over this coat.  So, I decided I was going to save all of my extra money using my favorite app called Digit (more on the app in this post and this post).  And once I got my jacket, I was addicted to saving even more.  What was the next fun purchase that I could save up for?

When I look back at my style last year, I’ve strayed a little bit away from who I am.  I love simple items but when you pair them together you get this nice, clean outfit.  When I look at my closet right now, I see way too many items that are too ‘trendy’.  Still classic trendy, but I don’t have a lot of the basics that are needed to build a wardrobe.  This year I am making it my mission to get the basics in tact.  THIS is how you build an amazing wardrobe because then everything can be mixed and matched.

These days retailers make it so easy to shop online.  Your credit card information, billing/shipping address are all saved.  And if you are a big online shopper like myself you know your 3 digit code on you credit card (usually the only thing you have to enter).  I hit checkout all too quickly.  This year I want to invest in pieces that I will have for years to come.  If I have to save for a few weeks to get that cashmere sweater instead of the trendy ruffle sweater, I am going to do that!  My closet is overpacked right now with items that I’m not crazy about and I want to change that!

When I first started my job, I had to wear business casual attire and no jeans (read more about it here).  Every morning it was so easy to get dressed because all of the items in my closet were interchangeable.  I loved it and that is what I am longing for in my regular, everyday wardrobe too.  So instead of buying items I’m lusting after, I want to really think about my purchases before I buy them.  And make sure that I can wear them multiple ways and for years to come.  I also want to show you different ways of how you can wear the same item.  I hate feeling like you bought something and you will only wear it once.  They may be a little more expensive, but trust me, it will be worth the investment!

Have you thought about how you are changing up your style this year?

I love this post! I had a goal similar to this last year but didn’t stick to it. I have pieces in my closet that aren’t me or my style. This year, although I like trying new things, I want to make sure I’m staying true to myself and style.

I agree! Sometimes I hit checkout too quickly and don’t fully think about how much I will wear something. I’m trying to be more mindful this year

Meet Amanda

Hi- my name is Amanda Faber. My husband and I moved in 2021 into our first home where we are slowly decorating and renovating our 1927 colonial home. My style is a mix between coastal, traditional, modern and grandmillenial. You can expect to find all the best blue and white finds, mixed in with lots of rattan accents. I am also a new mama to my daughter Sloane who was born in 2021! I love to share home décor finds, preppy fashion and all the peonies & hydrangeas from my garden. Welcome to Cashmere & Jeans!

I will always remember him when I hear an oldies song playing, when I see a classic car (especially if it’s a red 1967 Barracuda), when I’m eating a donut, drinking a hot cup of coffee or when I’m ironing my clothes. Yes I still iron haha but I got that from my dad. He was always put together and his clothes were always crisp. I know he touched so many lives including mine.
