I have now owned my Serena & Lily Grady Notch Arm sofa for over six months so I’m going to share all of details on it today! As you know Serena & Lily is my absolute favorite furniture and home decor store to shop from. You can shop everything that I own here. Over the years I have collected many pieces and have been more than happy with them. They are often duplicated but it’s never the same as their quality is top notch. Spoiler alert, I love my Serena & Lily Grady Notch Arm Sofa more than I thought I would. Truly, it’s even better than I could have expected. Here are all the details you need to know!
Serena & Lily Grady Notch Arm Sofa
Backstory
We moved into our home five years ago and I’ve really been taking my time decorating our home. I’ve always just liked our living room but never loved it. The sofa we had in there just sort of blended into the walls and it was all very beige. I was trying to add some accents into the room, but it just never felt right.
We don’t really use the space that much- we use our playroom way more. But it’s the first thing you see when you walk into our home and I really just wanted it to feel more like us and set the tone for our home. When I started designing and coming up with ideas, I kept coming back to a light blue sofa. More specifically a light blue sofa with pleats. I love that extra little detail! It became very clear that was the direction I should go in. It was that subtle pop of color I wanted, yet still neutral. And it would flow with the rest of our home which was important to me. I wanted this room to feel more sophisticated as it is technically the formal living room. I wanted the room to feel mor special and fancier than the rest of our home, yet still approachable. In the end, I think I achieved that and this sofa helped to set that tone.
The Sofa
We have a Serena & Lily store nearby so one Saturday my mom and I went in. When I initially went to the store, I had my eye on this sofa which is very similar. Except, it is much deeper than a traditional sofa, which I do not like at all. I’m not a curl up and lounge kind of girl on a sofa. I like a more traditional sofa where you sit more upright. So the sales associate I was working with suggested the Serena & Lily Grady Notch Sofa and she was absolutely correct! It was everything I wanted! I almost didn’t get the pleats (they make the same sofa without), but I am so glad that I did because I love the extra detail. It makes it feel more special.
The sofa is one of the most comfortable sofa’s I’ve ever sat/laid on. After six months, even my husband who only cares about how comfy something is, chooses to sit on it. The sofa is heavy. Heavier that I thought it would be which is nice because it doesn’t slide around on my wood floors. You can tell it is really well made and just very solid. I also really enjoy the little details like how the cushion has hooks (that you don’t see), that hook on so it doesn’t slide around. The pillows and cushions don’t lose their shape easily. And they can easily be shaped back. Overall, I am so happy with it. So happy that I would absolutely consider another sofa from Serena & Lily someday.
The Fabric
Serena & Lily just does that coastal blue color in the best way possible- it’s absolute perfection in real life. I ordered a ton of fabric samples from everywhere I could around the internet and what I was finding was that a lot of light blue sofas only came in velvet, which I didn’t want. Velvet felt too heavy for me and what I was going for. I ended up choosing the Perennials Performance Basketweave fabric in Sky.
It is a performance fabric which means it is really easy to clean. I was honestly shocked the first time I had to get something out of the sofa. There was a little dirt so I took a wet paper towel and very easily was able to get it out. No scrubbing, no harsh chemicals. I was honestly shocked at how easy it came out. It makes me feel a little better as I know things will get dirty over the years. But you can get it back to looking brand new very easily. This is why you pay extra for a good sofa and also for a good fabric…. because it is so much easier to clean and maintain.
The Price
I never in a million years thought I would ever buy upholstery furniture from Serena & Lily. But after searching and getting fabric samples, it was becoming clearer the the Serena & Lily Grady Notch Arm sofa was exactly what I was looking for. Is it expensive? ABSOLUTELY! Do I love it? Also, ABSOLUTLEY! I’ve found that over the years, it’s better to buy what you want right off the bat vs. getting something you think is ok and buying it two more times because it just isn’t right.
Serena & Lily does have a ton of sales. I bought mine over the Black Friday Sale in December which is typically the best time to buy. I was able to get 25% off and free shipping which was a great savings. Wait for a sale because they are always having on.

The Service
It is absolutely worth it to go into a store if you have one close to you. The sales associates are wonderful and so helpful. If you are local in MI, I work with Nancy at the Birmingham store and love her. They don’t work on commission which I think is nice because they aren’t pushy at all…at least Nancy isn’t. There was no pressure to buy that day either. She sent me home with lots of fabric samples although I pretty much knew right away what I was buying haha. And she was able to email me a direct link to the exact sofa and color I wanted. So when it was time to check out it was super easy. She also contacts me when there are sales- like their floor model sale which is really nice because I was able to score some great finds. And sometimes they can even give out free shipping. I recently ordered this pillow cover and didn’t want to spend $19 to ship it lol so she was able to waive the fee. It’s worth it to start working with someone!
And even the delivery people were amazing. My sofa delivered in January when it was snowy out. I was a little nervous it might get damaged when they were moving it in, but there were no issues.

Since I wanted to keep my Serena & Lily Grady Notch Arm sofa in top condition, I had a cover made for the seat which I think is a genius idea. They sell the fabric separately and I had this made from a local seamstress. It was actually rather inexpensive- the most expensive part being the fabric. It gives me a little more sense of calm when the dogs are jumping up on it with dirty feet. When I first got the sofa, I added a white couch cover from Amazon to it. But I hated it. I just got this beautiful blue sofa and it was ruined by this white cover. Plus the fabric is just not as comfy as the Serena & Lily cover. I hated how mismatched it all was. I wanted it to look perfect….and be protected!
This week I actually washed the cover for the first time (I didn’t dry it) and it came out perfectly clean. The one thing to note is that, they did run very short on fabric so there is a seam in my cover which is kind of a bummer because I like how clean the single seat is. But it is and it is and you can’t really see it once you add all the pillows haha. If I were to do it again, I would be more specific with what I want. Either way it turned out good and I like that there is an extra layer of protection on it.
I am so happy with my sofa. It is exactly what I have wanted both styling wise and comfort wise!
