We are getting ready to start one of our first DIY projects this year on the house! And I’m really excited. I talked about it in this post here, but I’m going to paint the little landing that goes down to our basement. I show the before photo in this post too. I’m not sure what I was thinking when we had the house painted, but I asked him not to paint it. It’s gross, but we actually use it a lot. So I know it will make a big difference.
Last weekend we cleared everything out and Kurt started prepping the space for me. That was the deal. Kurt would prep it and I would paint it. I had the prep work haha. Next week, I have some vacation I have to use or I lose it so I took a couple of days off to complete this project. It’s really hard to do stuff like this anyway when Sloane is home because she would be so interested in what was going on. So it’s just better this way.
I’ve also been shopping for a few new storage items to go in this space. We haven’t landed on anything yet. But I’m thinking we add some sort of cabinet with door to the space that hangs on the wall. I store old towels and plastic bags here. So it would be nice to have them more contained. And then we plan to add a new holder for brooms and mops. And get a new garbage can. I found one that I linked below that I actually really love haha. Eventually we need to have the tile re-done. I might get a quote on it and if it isn’t too terrible we will move forward with it. If not, I don’t think it needs to be done right away. I might want to allocate my funds elsewhere for now 🙂
Once this project wraps up, I think I’m going to move onto our kitchen next. I want to change out the light bulbs for one. They are so dull and I need something more bright in there. I think it will make a huge difference. And then I want to change out all the knobs and pulls. I’m not really sure what direction I want to go in yet as far as color. I was just thinking maybe I need to make a trip to Home Depot and grab a few cheap knobs in a bunch of different colors so I can see what looks best and kind of go from there. This post has a pic of our kitchen. I was thinking a shiny nickel hardware- what do you think?!
And I am also going to get a quote on having a backsplash added. I know that will make a huge difference. But I have zero idea on what I want. Something plain. I was kind of thinking just a simple white, subway tile. But that seems too easy and simple. So I don’t know- I need to go to the tile store too! I’ve been really excited lately for all of these home improvement projects 🙂
Here are some things I’ve found while shopping lately:
- I lived in my white tennis skirt last summer and saw that they made it in navy this year. I also want to get the matching tank top.
- These espadrilles are on my wish list this spring. I love the platform heel on them.
- Adore these espadrille loafers. Would be so cute with light colored jeans and a sweater. They are the perfect type of shoe to take you into the warmer months.
- I just ordered this one piece in pink. Hoping it works out because the price is really good!
- I adore these pink jeans! And I’ve heard really great things about this brand so I’m intrigued to try them.
- Love the color of this sweater!
- Really love this easy, breezy dress.
- Is this not the most precious cardigan for Sloane? I’ve had it in my cart for a while now and think I just need to order it for her.
- I’m clearly on a shoe kick today! Loving these slides. And the price is great on them!
- I personally think Target has the best leggings for toddlers. They fit really nicely, don’t bunch up in the knees and they are only $5! Sloane is going thru a growth spurt right now so I need to replace a few colors of hers.
- I found this white garbage can that I’m obsessed with. I’ve never seen a white one, but I’m ordering it haha.
- I love to eat cereal, but hate how I’m starving an hour later. So I decided to try this one and it’s actually really good. I ate the whole box and am buying a second box, so I think that says something!
- I shared a few weeks ago the most adorable shirt and matching shorts set in green and they just launched in in pink (top and shorts). And I’m so glad I waited because I LOVE the pink even more.
- We have a wedding this summer in Chicago and I’ve been on the hunt for a new pair of heels and came across these the other day. I’m in love!
