Powder Bath Design Ideas

Peel and Stick Grasscloth Wallpaper | Hand Towels | Toilet Paper Holder | Rug | Sconces | Mirror | Hand Towel Ring | Tissue Box Cover | Vanity

…

I’m really excited to be sharing my powder bath design ideas with you today! It has been a long time coming, but I’ve finally decided on all the major things. And I plan to get started on this project in the next couple of weeks. First up, we will be tearing down the existing wallpaper. I remember doing this at my Grandma’s home when I was a kid and it not being easy. So I’m glad we have a tiny space. Hopefully it’s not as hard as I remember.

Originally, my plan for this bathroom was completely different. I had talked to my contractor about ripping basically everything out and starting over. Adding a new vanity, toilet, scones, wallpaper, etc. But the more I thought about it, the dollar signs kept adding up. The quote he gave me wasn’t bad, but I soon realized that was just for the labor portion. And after doing a few home renovations, I know you don’t usually stay on budget. I would then still have to purchase everything else which fell outside of his quote. Plus the cost of wallpaper and wallpaper installation. It was more than I wanted to spend to be frank.

Powder bath from the listing pictures. It doesn’t look terrible in this picture, but pictures can be deceiving! It needs some updates.

…

Our powder bath isn’t the most terrible thing, although I am really embarrassed by it. The paint is chipping, the wallpaper looks yellow and dirty. Our guests use this bathroom when they come to our home and I just want something a little nicer and more my style. The gold, overly ornate sconces are just not cutting it for me!

I always knew I wanted to do green in this bathroom. I love blue and green together. And since my whole house is basically blue, I wanted to add some green to this space to break it up a bit. Plus, our play room is right off this room and I plan to add some touches of green in there too. You can see my design for our play room in this post here and a little update in this post on some of our furniture for this space. So I thought green would be a nice transition.

Originally, I wanted to paint everything in the room green. The walls, molding, cabinet, ceiling- it would all be green! I think it would have looked really cool. And I loved these sconces (more affordable option here) that I planned on using, which I still really love so I might need to find another space in my home to use them. I went out and sampled a ton of green paints and found a few winners. But for some reason, I just couldn’t make a decision and kept dragging my feet.

And then I cam across this image from Pinterest and it was everything I wanted in my powder bath! I love how bright and fresh it looks and I love the green grasscloth wallpaper. It really got my wheels spining and I remembered this peel and stick wallpaper option that everyone raves about. I started googling how to install it. And it looks pretty easy. Especially because there isn’t a pattern that has to be lined up. I ended up ordering some samples and was very pleasantly surprised at how nice the wallpaper is! It actually has a texture like real grasscloth wallpaper which I was not expecting. The Sage Green is the perfect color. And the best part is that it is really affordable, especially because I don’t think I will need much- maybe two rolls! I still have to measure.

What is Staying

I think I forgot to mention, but someday I do want to update this space a little more with a new vanity and toilet. This vanity is what I have in mind in white. The toilet right now is off white and it drives me nuts- I hate off white more than anything! So I am trying to make this space look nice, but on a budget. For now the vanity and toilet will be staying.

The vanity is connected to the wall. So if we remove the current vanity, I would have to have the trim all re-done. The current vantiy is a little too big in my opinion, so if we went with a smaller option that would mean my floors would be showing. And we had the floors re-done so even if there is wood flooring underneath, it is most likely the old color. See the costs adding up, haha? Me too. Which is why I am DIY-ing this project.

I still might try and talk Kurt into a new toilet! He agrees that we need a new one. So even if we don’t get to it this year- it is something on our list that we want to update.

Accessories

I absolutely adore these sconces I found. I have this thing right now for polished nickel. Brass is really popular and trending right now, but there is something so classic and sophisticated about polished nickel. And I thought this was a really fun mirror for a great price. We have a tiny space so it was hard to find something that would fit (and that I liked). But this one will be perfect.

I’ve also heard everyone rave about Weezie towels for years, but have never owned any. I am going to splurge on some when my powder bath is done. The green matches perfectly.

And I already own this rug. I bought it, but didn’t like it for the space I bought it for. Currently, it’s in my front entry. But it is way too small, so it looks kind of funny. It’s the perfect for our powder bath.

I will still need to find some other accessories like art and window coverings. But I am going to take my time with those. Art is always so hard because it feels so permanent! Once I see something that I like I will order it, but it has to speak to me, so I am not going to rush it. And as far as window coverings, I might add a woven shade like this. Or have one made in a fun print depending on price. I am trying to stay budget friendly šŸ™‚ But I want to get the room painted and the wallpaper hung before I make a final decision.

Overall, I am really excited with my design and I can’t wait to get started. I’m always amazed at what a little paint can do for a space so I know this transformation will be no different!
