Today, I am going to discuss my hair growth journey. It has taken me years and tons of product testing to figure out what works best for my lifestyle and hair. One small piece of advice I can give you is you have to stick it out for awhile to see if the products are working. I’m impatient and want a quick fix so this is hard for me. And buy the mini/travel size version before you commit to the big bottles haha. I’ve tried so many products, but in the last few months, I have really started to love what I am using. After years, of suffering with bad hair, I have finally found a routine and products to support my hair growth. And even as a blonde, you can still grow your hair out in a healthy way. I am proof to that!
Backstory
The last several years I have had a lot of issues with my hair and I felt like my hair growth was almost non-existent. At first, I thought it had to do with all the IVF drugs I was pumping into my body to have my daughter. And then after I had her, my hair growth was progressing. It was fuller and thicker than it had been in years….until it wasn’t. As a new mom, I didn’t really have a lot of time do to my hair, so I wasn’t really putting a lot of heat on it, which I found out was key for me.
I noticed around July of 2024 that I had a huge chunk of hair missing from the back of my head (you can see images below). I was pretty devasted. So at my next hair appointment, I decided to even it all out (I had to go pretty short) and go darker. I thought for sure the blonde was the culprit to my damaged hair.
Going darker might be the answer for some, but I hated it so much. And turns out, my hair was still damaged. I don’t think it really helped me by going darker. I thought that would miracurasly solve all my issues, but it didn’t. When I would have meetings at work, I would stare at myself on the screen in a teams call and I just looked so pale and like I had big, dark bags under my eyes. And to top if off, I didn’t want shorter hair. I hated that time so much because my hair is everything to me and I really did not like the color or cut.
At my next appointment, I decided to go back blonde and never looked back. If I was going to have damaged hair, at least it would be cute lol. My self-confidence meant more to me!
Identify the Issue
Around this time, I grilled my hair dresser for all his tips on my hair growth journey. I was like a sponge and I was willing to try anything. I also turned to Instagram and found @abbeyyung. She is a wealth of knowledge! And I can’t tell you how many late nights I had staying up watching her YouTube videos. I learned so much from her and got a ton of product recommendations.
But the most important issue I finally figured out for myself was that I needed to cool it on the heat or else there would be no hair growth. I used to blow dry my hair and then flat iron it and the flat iron was the culprit to all damage. I gave that up quickly. And I also started letting my hair air dry and working with my natural texture. During the summer months, I almost never blow dried my hair which was kind of nice! Now that it is cold, I do blow dry my hair twice a week but it is just too cold for wet hair! I think it’s really important to be honest with yourself and figure out what the issue is.
Products I Use for Hair Growth

Here are all the products I use and love. I have really seen a lot of hair growth espeically the last few months which feels nice and like the products are actually working! This is a lot of products, but I went all in. And now they are working, so I keep using them.
Oribe Shampoo & Conditioner
I am obsessed with this shampoo and conditioner. Seriously everyone needs to try it. My hair stylists assistant told me about it and I have to agree with her that it is amazing. I started using it and two months later when I went back to my stylist he was like what are you using on your hair?! He said that everyone that uses it, he sees a huge improvement in their hair. It really nourishes my hair and gives it shine. Plus it’s helping to make it stronger. I’m not sure I will ever stray from this!
Goop Scalp Scrub
I’ve heard about this scrub for awhile now and finally decided to try it. And wow, it really is an amazing product. First off, it smells amazing and gets your hair so squeaky clean without that super dry feeling. I use this about once a week before my Oribe shampoo to get all the product build out of my hair.
K18 Hair Mask
This is one of the best hair masks that I have ever used. I see a huge, noticeable difference in my frizz and overall health of my hair when I use it. I also really like how you use as I am not going to put a mask on my hair, get out, towel dry off, wait 30 minutes and then get back in to wash it out. No one has time for that! I use this one just like the directions state. You shampoo, get out of the shower, towel dry your hair and then add a couple of pumps to your hair and let it sit for four minutes. It sounds weird that you don’t use conditioner, but my hair is still soft and manageable so I don’t need it. You can wait the four minutes and then add conditioner, wash that out, but I don’t really feel like I need that extra step, so I skip it. I use this mask once a week. I’m sorry in advance that this is so expensive but it really does work!

I took pictures a few days apart so you could see the difference when using K18 vs. not using it. In this photo above I used K18 so you will notice I barely have any frizz and it looks smoother overall.

And a few days later when I washed my hair, but didn’t use K18. You will notice it is a little more frizzy and not as smooth in my layers.
Living Proof Triple Bond Complex
If I am doing the K18 mask, I add this bond repair to my hair after the four minutes is up. And then wait at least ten minutes before I add any other products or blow dry it. If I don’t use K18, I apply this to my hair immediately after I get out of the shower and then wrap my hair up in a hair towel to dry. I only use this on days when I am blow drying as it is heat activated.
Pureology Color Fanatic
After I have waited at least ten minutes to let the Living Proof bond repair do it’s thing, I spray this generously on the bottom of my hair before I brush it out. This stuff is so good! And gets all the tangles out. And I think this is why I don’t have an issue with not using conditioner with the K18 hair mask. I am getting that extra moisture from this product. Side note- I also use this product on Sloane’s hair and it works so well. I was sick of using half the bottle on products made for kids and randomly used this on her and there was no looking back. I can actually get a brush through her hair so that’s a huge win!
Kerastase Hair Oil
I add about a half a pump of this hair oil to my hair before I blow dry. This stuff is really powerful so if I add anymore, I find my hair is too greasy. This product is a miracle product though! It really coats your hair so it makes it nice and shiny and strong. On nights that I know I am going to wash my hair the next day, I add a big pump of this to my ends to nourish them overnight.
Caviar CC Cream
This is a rather newer cream I have been using before I blow dry and I have really been liking it. This is where I am still kind of figuring out what I need/like, but I would absolutely buy this product again. I have been using this CC Cream and also this Roz milk hair serum before I blow dry to tame my frizz. I really like them both!
Color Wow
This is a great product my hair stylist friend told me about. It really cuts down on the frizz which I seem to have a lot of. I spray this all over my head before I blow dry.
Roz Hair Oil
Once I am done blow drying my hair, I add a little bit of this hair oil to my ends to give it some shine. It’s a very lightweight oil that I have really fallen in love with it! On days I’m not blow drying my hair, I still add a little bit of this to my hair to liven it up.
Kerastase Magic Night Serum
At night this is a serum I’ve been using to aide in my hair growth. I apply two pumps to the ends of my hair and I wake up the next day with glowing hair. This stuff is really amazing! And I love that it’s a little extra step at night to protect your hair. I really think this is one of the products that has truly helped my hair growth journey is so many ways. It helps to nourish my hair overnight plus it gives your hair a nice shine, so I have less breakage. I was a little hesitant to apply it to my hair especially because it makes your hair feel wet almost. But don’t be nervous because your blow dry will be protected! You will wake up with really good hair the next day. I’ve re-bought this serum several times!
The Supplements I Take
Vital Proteins Collagen
I add two big scoops of this collagen every morning to my coffee. You can’t taste it all, but it has done wonders for my hair, skin, nails and joints. It promotes growth in my hair and makes it thicker. I stopped using this for a period of time and that is when I got saw lots of breakage in my hair. I will never go more than a few days without this now!
Weem
I started taking this vitamin after trying Nutrafol and not liking it. This is my best kept secret when it comes it hair growth. Within a few weeks of taking it, I had a ton of new hair growth around my hairline. And even now a year later after taking it, I am still seeing tons of new growth. It also makes my nails long and strong. They actually taste really good too! I have this on subscription so I never miss a month.
The Tools I Use
Dyson Hair Dryer
I never thought I would spend this much on a hair dryer, but I had Amex points to use and decided I wanted to try it. And I will never go back. If this were to break tomorrow, I would buy a new one. It is so incredibly powerful, but never feels hot on your head. I can dry the roots of my hair with just a couple blasts. I style my hair with a round brush when I blow dry it, so I can’t say that is has really sped up my time. But it does dry my hair faster if that even makes sense. Plus I have more shine and bounce to my hair. I also think this has helped to prevent damage to my hair because it never really gets hot. I know it’s a lot of money for a hair dryer, but this is a must!
Hair Brush
My hair stylist told me about this brush. I originally got it to use on Sloane, but then I loved it so much so I bought myself one. It is very gentle on your hair so you won’t get any damage. Plus, it actually gets to the scalp of your head unlike the Wet Brush. With the Wet Brush, I always felt like I was just moving hair around instead of actually brushing it.
Progress Photos

August 2024- This was the damage I experienced in the back of my head. I still have no idea how it happened!

September 2024- I went and saw my stylist and chopped my hair off and went darker. It’s kind of hard to tell in this photo because I still kept a lot of the blonde at the bottom, but my roots were the same color as my natural color, which is pretty dark.

June 2025- I had just left the salon and at this point I was like, Ok, I think what I am doing is actually working! It was never really about having super long hair for me, although that would be nice. I want more than anything for my layers to be longer, which by this point I could finally tell they were growing and keeping the length. And look at all of that new growth at the top! That is 100% because of the vitamin and the collagen that I had started to take on a regular basis at the beginning of 2025. Sometimes it takes a bit to really kick in and by this timeframe, it had kicked in!

August 2025- My layers were finally growing. By now I had a routine I really liked and I knew it was working for me!

January 2026- We are long(er), stronger and healthy again! I do need a haircut here but I feel like my hair is in a good place at this point!
Hope you found some good product recommendations! And some motivation to keep going 🙂
