How to Make the Easiest Valentine’s Day Card for Toddlers

Paint Set | Tag | Ribbon

…

Want to learn more about how I made the easiest Valentine’s Day card for toddlers? I made these for my 2.5 year old to pass out to her friends in her daycare class on Valentine’s Day. And not only did they turn out adorable, but they were super easy to make! And really cheap! I ended up making a total of 24 and each one was only $1.57!!!

What I Used

Here is a break down of what I used with links!

Heart paint sets– If these aren’t available you can always use these too. I ordered them really early because they sell out every year! I placed an order on January 3 and they delivered January 21, so they did take while. At some point, they did sell out. I can’t remember at what point they sold out, but before I even received them they were no longer available. Or they were available to order but had a delivery date past Valentine’s Day. Order early! You can always return them if you no longer need them.

Tag– This is for a digital download. They send you an email and you can update it to be your child’s name. If you have more than one child, you can update it as much as you want! It comes with diretions, but it is really easy to update, download and save.

Printing of Tags- I decided to print these at Staples because my printer is not the best and I wanted them on thicker cardstock. I don’t really think that is necessary though. So if you want to save a little money, by all means print them on normal paper at home. I did an Amazon return at Staples and received a 15% off coupon which helped to reduce my cost a bit so that helped!

Ribbon– Usually I have ribbon, but I didn’t have any red leftover from Christmas so I decided to buy this pink one. I have plenty of leftover too so I can use it next year. I find that the 1/4″ width is the easiest to work with because it goes in really nicely to the hole the hole punch makes.

Hole Punch– I already had this! I bought it last year when I made our rubber ducks Valentine’s Day cards for toddlers. It’s a cheap investment that I know I will use again for more craft projects.

Cellophane Bags (optional)- I was originally going to put the paint sets in a bag and tie it with a bow and add the tag. But I just didn’t think that was necessary so to save a little money (and time), I ditched it. These were the ones I bought (and ended up returning).

Steps to Assemble

I first cut my ribbon. I just eye balled it and cut more than I thought I needed. You usually do need more than you think. I tied a knot around the paint set. Next, I punched a hole in the tag and looped it onto one side of the ribbon and tied another knot. Now that the tag is secure, I made a pretty bow and cut off an excess. They were that easy! All in all, it probably took me a total of 20 minutes to make these.

Cost Breakdown

Heart paint set- $19.99 for a pack of 24.

Digital download of the tag- $5.60

Printing of tags- $6.99 at Staples

Ribbon-$4.99

Hole Punch- already had this. But the one I used is $6.49 (not going to include this in my cost since I own it already).

All in the total came out to $37.57 or $1.57 per Valentine’s Day card!

I’m really excited for my daughter Sloane to see these and pass them out to her classmates at school. She loves to paint so I know she will love this gift! Happy Valentine’s Day!!

Let me know if you make these Valentine’s Day card for toddlers šŸ™‚
