Hello there! My name is Amanda Faber and I am the author of Cashmere & Jeans. My husband Kurt & I moved back to our home state of Michigan in 2021. We bought our first home, a 1927 colonial and had our first child a couple of months later. 2021 was a crazy year for us!
Our home is a fixer upper and I have been more than excited to get down and dirty decorating, renovating and coming up with visions long term to make this the perfect home for our family. I would describe my style as a mix between coastal, traditional, modern and grandmillenial. Things have to be light and bright in my home. Give me all the light colored furniture- even with a toddler and a husky dog (and a husband haha!). I love decorating in blue and white accents.
I started my career off in fashion and at a previous job I worked on launching a website. I LOVED what I did, but things took a turn and I decided to go in a completely different direction. Today I still work as a “buyer” per say, but it has nothing to do with the fashion world. I soon realized that I do miss the creativity of my last job and getting to work with product that I am truly passionate about. My favorite “hobby” is to read blogs. I love seeing outfit posts on Instagram and seeing what bloggers write about and the advice they give me. One day I had a revelation- I could do this! Starting a blog is exactly the creative outlet I was looking for. And I thought it would be a fun way to document my life.
How did you come up with Cashmere & Jeans?
Once I finally decided I would start a blog- the next step was to come up with a name. I was home in Traverse City, MI and I was talking to my dad about my ideas for a blog. We were brainstorming names or words that best described “me”. After getting stuck for a bit and not really liking much that we were coming up with, I started scrolling thru my email. And I received an email from a retailer advertising cashmere and jeans. It was like the blogging gods had sent me an email! I thought-“this is a perfect name for my blog!” And this name fits me to a tee!
The “cashmere” part describes the luxurious items in your closet. The items that you obsessive over for a year. They are those special items that you will own forever. Or cashmere can be taken quite literally. I have always thought of cashmere as being a “special” fabric. It’s that extra soft, comfy cashmere sweater or that cashmere throw blanket that you are wrapped up in next to the fireplace drinking coffee.
The “jeans” part of the name represents my love for denim. I LOVE jeans. My first job in Chicago was at a retail corporation and we had to dress professional. It never made sense to me because we were always climbing around and re-arranging product. I always thought we would be more comfortable in jeans. And all my co-workers knew about my obsession with us wearing jeans. When I decided to leave that job I had to think LONG and HARD about accepting my current position because we could only wear jeans ONCE a month. I know its crazy! But I liked the company too much to not take the position over something so silly. Thankfully, today I get to work from home and I get to wear all the jeans (or leggings!) that I want!
What you can expect from me?
You can expect lots of home décor posts documenting our home improvements and ‘reveals’ once rooms are completed. Preppy outfit inspiration, beauty posts including makeup and hair, home décor, toddler advice, what my daughter is into, etc. I have sooo many ideas that I can’t wait to share with you all! This is just the beginning of something great and I am so excited for you all to follow along. I hope you enjoy reading Cashmere & Jeans, as much as I enjoy creating it!
