I’m really excited to share my daughter’s big girl bedroom today! It turned out really cute and fun and it’s so her. Her favorite ‘color’ is rainbow. And I like to think that we did a really good job of achieving a happy medium where mom is happy and she’s happy too!
I probably would not have given her room an overhaul if my mom didn’t move in with us last summer. But the way our house is set up, the only good room for my mom to have was Sloane’s old room (you can see her nursery here).
Her bedroom now was previously my husband’s office. It is a small room, but perfect for a little kid. She also has a playroom on our first floor that we spend a lot of time in- you can see that here. The one downfall is that you have to walk through her room to get up to our third floor where my husband now works. I worry a little bit about privacy as she gets older, but it’s something we can deal with in a few years haha. These old homes lol.
When I asked her what color she wanted to paint the walls of her room, I was fully expecting her to say pink and I was just going to go with the pink I had in her nursery (Benjamin Moore Paisley Pink) . But she said purple. And I immediately thought of dark, deep purple which I could not do! Way too dark for me, especially in such a small space. So I pivoted to lavender and landed on Benjamin Moore Sugarplum. And I adore the color so much. It’s really fun and vibrant, yet soft and perfect for my daughter’s big girl bedroom.
My Daughter’s Big Girl Bedroom

I love, love, love how this came together! I knew a daybed would be perfect in this space and I about gasped when I found this one. Is it not perfect?! I was originally going to get the pink but thought it would be too much. My plan was to use as much from her nursery as I could and I thought it would clash with her curtains. The rug ties all the colors in perfectly and is very comfy and perfect for a little girls bedroom. It also cleans up really nicely.
Originally I wanted the bed under the big window, centered so you saw it when you first walked in. And design wise that would be the best option but then she would have zero floor space to play. So we decided the bed should go on the wall. It looks a little funny, but it is much more functional and she still has room to play.
We opted to sell her dresser and replace it with this desk and chair. The one she had was just too big for the space and we knew she would use the desk a lot more. All of her clothes fit nicely in her closet (that we just had re-done!) so we weren’t in need of more storage. She loves to sit here and color and do arts and crafts and I know it will be useful as she gets older to do homework at.
Down the road I might add a few more pieces of artwork to her walls. Behind her bed looks so bare to me but she also plays and builds forts and right now I don’t want to have to worry about anything falling over on her! It’s done for now until I find something else that catches my eye that would be adorable in here 🙂
