My Plans for Our Affordable Bathroom Glow Up

Today I want to talk about my plans for our affordable bathroom glow up. We are keeping all the big ticket items like the vanity, the tile, the toilet, but basically everything else is going to change. When we moved into this home almost four years ago, the plan has always been to completely gut this bathroom and start from scratch. I honestly thought by now we would have been completed this project, but we are no where near that. So for that I will laugh at myself! Every home project is a big undertaking with tons of little decisions. It’s exhausting. Not to mention the cost of everything.

Here is what the bathroom looks like today. I think these plans for this affordable bathroom glow up are going to look really nice. The key is affordable. I’m going to keep everything cost friendly because we still want to gut this someday.

We didn’t have this bathroom painted when we moved into the home because I was convinced that we could live with it for a few short years until we could gut it. Since that isn’t happening anytime soon, it’s time to update this bathroom, but on a budget.

Affordable Bathroom Design

The first step is having the bathroom painted. Up close it really needs it especially the trim, so I think this will make a huge difference. Fresh paint always makes the world of difference. I put the deposit down a couple of weeks ago so I’m just waiting (patiently) for the call on when the contractors can start. I decided on the color Benjamin Moore Pale Oak. Pretty similar to what is in there now, but a lot lighter. But I still think it will give it a nice warmth. I originally wanted a white color, but everything just seemed too stark against the dark cabinets and tile.

After it’s painted, the plan is to spruce it up with some affordable light fixtures, mirrors and other accessories. We already changed out the hardware on the cabinets to these pulls and these knobs and it already has made a world of difference! I really love shiny nickel or chrome. It just looks so sharp. I picked out these sconces because they look nice and I really like the price on them. I tried to use this mirror in our third floor bath remodel (see it here), but it didn’t work so I want to use them in this bathroom because I love the look of them.

We already have one of these hooks that we didn’t end up using in our other bathroom. So I’m going to buy another one to use to hang our towels on the wall. I haven’t quite decided what direction I will go for towels yet. I can either use these pretty green floral towels I just got- you can see them in this post. Or I did order these scallop ones that are a nice neutral, but also kind of fun. My plan is to decide once the walls are painted and I see everything else come to life. I will probably use both in here haha just to change it up every now and then!

There really isn’t space for a round hand towel bar like most bathrooms have so I am going to hang a piece of artwork (I really love this shell one) above the toilet. And then hang the towel bar below it. I think we will have enough room.

I know I said I was going to keep things affordable but how perfect does the new Mackenzie-Childs mocha print tissue box look in here?! It might have to be my one little splurge. And I’m still on the hunt for a waste basket. I love the one I included in the graphic but it is $$$. Maybe I can find it on sale?!

The last thing I still need to decide is a window treatment. I am either leaning towards a bamboo shade like the ones we just added to our dining room (seen here) or these striped cafe curtains.

In Conclusion

I haven’t ordered anything yet. The plan is to wait until I have a better idea on when my contractors can start and then I will will start placing orders. I can hardly wait to see how this all comes together! And stay tuned because I will be share the final reveal once it’s completed!
